Is a Blog Right for You?

Blog readership jumped exponentially in the last year according to a Pew Internet and American Life study. Forrester Research reports that 64% of U.S. advertisers indicated that they would advertise in blogs and 57% would place RSS ads.

Start a blog focused on a specific niche to raise search visibility, create page 1 search results over a period of time and be an opinion leader. A business blog that is interesting, informative, and even controversial can attract links in its own right. To get credit for any links to it, it must be hosted on your own website, not that of a service provider.

Ideally, update your blog two or three times per week, but no less than once per week. Use pictures to liven up your blog entries and give your blog a more professional appearance. You can find excellent pictures at a very low cost in istockphoto.com, or even free in Flickr (you’ll need to ask the owner of the picture for permission before you use it).

Syndicate your blog, allowing your visitors to subscribe to your feeds through their favorite RSS aggregator. This way, your readers will be automatically notified every time you update your blog, which also increases the number of links to your website. Note: RSS feeds can also include optimized press releases and articles.
